  1. Explain in detail how this work?

As a contractor you will log onto the system and input all of your employees/applicants into the railsafe system. Data would include Name, DOB, SSN etc. You will then upload a digital photo of them into the system.

Your applicant will then log onto the system and complete the test, after they do this it will automatically trigger a nationwide background investigation to be pulled on them.

After the investigation is complete, your applicant will be approved or denied onto railroad property. If approved a badge will be sent via FedEx to you to disburse to your employees.

  1. How am I supposed to get pictures of my employees to you.

There are several methods to choose from:
    1. If you have a digital camera simply take the picture and upload into the railsafe system when prompted (remember to keep your camera on a low resolution so you don't go over the 500 kb limit)
    2. If you do not have a digital camera we can refer you to a site to purchase for around $80
    3. If you do not wish to use a digital camera, then you can have employees bring in a photo of themselves (must be a clear face shot, no hats, sunglasses etc.) and you can scan it then upload it into e-railsafe when prompted.
    4. If you do not have a scanner any local Wal-Mart, Walgreens or any photo center can provide this to you. You can upload several hundred photos onto a disk for just a few dollars.

  1. Why is there an extra $52.00 surcharge associated with NY addresses?

In July of 2003, the state of NY changed their policy on reporting felony and/or misdemeanor record information. For certain counties, there is no longer a county seat available that reports felony or misdemeanor records. All information is forwarded to the state level. A NY statewide search is $62.00, however all e-RAILSAFE clients are given a $10.00 discount to automatically order the NY statewide if applicable. As a part of the e-RAILSAFE program, the NY statewide is required if any of the address yielded per employee turn up in the specified restricted counties. Each e-RAILSAFE client is notified of the NY surcharge during the account setup process.
